Mongolia has received about 100,000 tourists in the first quarter

As of April 4, 2023, 107,877 tourists have visited Mongolia. The Ministry of Environment and Tourism highlighted that the number exceeded the first quarter’s target. Mongolia has set a target of one million tourists in 2023. The largest number of tourists come from Russia (57.4%), China (18.2%), and South Korea (7.3%).

80.7 percent of all tourists came from visa-free countries, 3.1 percent came from countries with temporary exemptions, and 21.5 percent came from countries with visa requirements. Mongolia’s government is making efforts to support the growth of the tourism industry. This could include measures such as simplifying visa processes, providing incentives for tourism investments, and promoting sustainable tourism practices.

In addition to Russia, China, and South Korea, which were mentioned earlier as the top three countries sending tourists to Mongolia, there are other countries that have shown significant growth in terms of sending tourists to Mongolia. Japan has emerged as a growing source market for tourism to Mongolia. In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of Japanese tourists visiting Mongolia, attracted by its unique cultural heritage, landscapes, and adventure tourism opportunities. Several European countries, such as Germany, France, and the United Kingdom, have also shown growth in sending tourists to Mongolia. These tourists are often interested in experiencing Mongolia’s nomadic culture, pristine natural landscapes, and unique outdoor activities.
