Mongolian Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai had an online meeting yesterday with Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, and the Chief Technology Officer of Twitter. During the meeting, they discussed green technology and the introduction of advanced technology in the telecommunications sector. In this context, they also talked about collaborating to provide opportunities for the company “Starlink” to operate in Mongolia, aiming to increase Internet access.
“Starlink” currently provides services in the USA, England, France, and New Zealand. In Asia, it operates in Japan and the Philippines, having already launched more than 4,000 low-orbit satellites, thus establishing a global satellite network.
Mongolia requires the development of new communication infrastructure and increased Internet access for herders living in rural areas. Previously, only one-third of the country was connected by fiber optic cable and internet networks.
On May 6, 2022, Starlink submitted its initial request to the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission to establish a company and commence operations in Mongolia. As a result, Starlink experts will be working in Mongolia starting in July.
