Mongolia’s external debt reaches USD 32.4 billion

Mongolia’s total external debt in the first nine months of 2022 reached USD 32.4 billion, a 2.6% decrease from the same period last year. USD 7.6 billion or 23.5% of the total external debt is government debt.

At the beginning of December, the Mongolian government repaid in full its inaugural USD 1.5 billion Chinggis bond in a bid to manage its debt profile.

Since 2012, the Government of Mongolia has issued a total of seven sovereign bonds with a maturity of 3-10 years, including Chinggis, Dim Sum, Mazaalai, Khuraldai, Gerege, Nomad, and Century. There are three bonds issued by the Mongolian Government and Development bank of Mongolia that mature between May and December 2023.
